Charleston is fortunate to have several outstanding museums in the area. Each one of them is extremely knowledgeable and provides a great way to spend a day with the whole family. The highly rated Avampato Discover Museum, located inside the Clay Center at 300 Leon Sullivan Way, is filled with hands-on exhibits and at least one themed event every month. There is something for everyone here, children will love the planetarium and NASA display, plus there is even a location for small toddlers that will keep the little ones entertained for hours. The three-level museum is one of Charleston’s most popular spots, and defiantly worth checking out.
The West Virginia State Museum is another tremendous way to get out and learn all about our state’s rich and storied history. Everyone will leave having learned a great deal more about the state than upon entering. You will travel through the years from the first days of statehood, all the way up to the modern-day West Virginia as we know it. Learn about the state’s geological history and see fossils that have been excavated all throughout the area. West Virginia’s involvement with the Civil War is also highlighted, and the multi-media displays will have you totally immersed in all of the subject matter. Be sure and check out the museum’s lovely give shop as well, and don’t forget that the entire self-guided tour is absolutely free!
The South Charleston Museum, just minutes away from the Holiday Inn, entails all the history that made up this prestigious little town just south of Charleston. Since 2004, the Museum has been presenting new and rare West Virginia films. With world premieres of landmark films about our region and state they have attracted hundreds of people to the programs. Many educational programs and events have also been held for school groups as well.
All of these amazing and educational museums are just a short ways from the Holiday Inn. We can provide a local shuttle service to and from each hotel upon request as well. If you are traveling through, or coming in to the city on vacation, any of these stops are a great choice for you and your family. Back at the Holiday Inn, guests will enjoy our new indoor pool and hot tub facility as well as surfing the web with our free high-speed Internet connection. If you have any questions or need any type of assistance at all, do not hesitate to talk to any of our outstanding employees at the front desk.
