The West Virginia State Museum can be found on the Capitol Grounds in Charleston. The museum showcases the state’s history, culture, art, paleontology, archaeology and geology in traveling exhibits and 26 different discovery rooms. Renovated in 2009, visitors can take a journey through time; beginning in a pre-historic coal forest, through early western settlements, coal towns and present day marvels. The chronological and interactive path is self-guided, and the museum is family friendly and dedicated to illustrating pivotal moments in West Virginia’s cultural, industrial and natural history. With exhibits and displays that rival those of the Smithsonian and other top museums in the nation, the West Virginia State Museum will awe, educate and inspire guests during their tours.
Just a short 5-10 minute drive from the Holiday Inn & Suites Charleston West, the State Museum is a great place to spend a day with your family.
